There is a marked brightness at the end of the tunnel, and no sound of a locomotive coming my way. I am reasonably sure that with the release of this next chapter, I'll be over the recent craziness, ready to resume a regular rollout schedule, and possibly a semi-regular blog.

In the meantime, I hope everyone is enjoying Capes and Bats. I know I am, and it is certainly filling the void between Armchair chapters, the way Reap What You Sow did the last time I had one of these attacks of the real life siege machine.

In other happy news: I got the loveliest email this morning from a long-time reader with some really stellar analyzes of the series, and there is major progress on the side project I have occasionally referred to as "the TBA that ate Tokyo."

In less happy news: It's not a good time for cats. For those who don't read the Iceberg Lounge message board, Igor's cat Sam had a fall and had to be put to sleep. That is a terrible blow at any time, but what makes it so much worse is that his family hadn't had Sam for very long. They got him when a cat they had for many many years died. That's the part I can really relate to. I had two cats for 11 years. They were constant companions from kittenhood, and when the first died, the other just sort of wound down and stopped. The kitten I got after that had FIP, which is a devastating feline respiratory disease. 100% contagious. 100% fatal. He never saw adulthood. It's an entirely different kind of loss when a pet has been with you for a decade, and when you've only just got to know them. Both break your heart. So my heart goes out to Igor, but I'm also remembering my own little brood. Those little furballs give us so much, and all they want in return is a warm lap to purr in and some stroking of the fur - in just the right spot. Really you should know this by now. A little higher... okay there is close enough...

Excuse me now, I'm going to spoil Cashmere with some fresh tuna
