    There are a lot of cat behaviors that are much easier to notice with two cats instead of one. There are many more where it is easier to figure out what's going on/what the behavior is all about.

    One of my favorites dispels a common misconception about domestic cats and is the easiest for we hopelessly tall and awkward humans to adapt to:

    Social Greeting
    It's a myth that cats are aloof or anti-social. Compared to dogs, they're very subtle in the way they extend invitations. A cat that doesn't know you isn't going to trot right up and beg you to be his/her friend. And a feral cat or stray is going to be especially wary. But let's say you have squatted down to kitty's level, spoken softly, perhaps piqued their interest by jingling your keys, or in the case of strays, maybe established trust by leaving them food or water over several weeks.     I posted this several months ago, but the video was apparently removed for trademark violation.� Here it is back, posted by the owners Tandem Films.� While I'm sharing it mostly for entertainment value, it also fits in with our Write What You Know initiative.� When I show this to people, the universal response is "somebody actually has a cat."�

    Yep.� Somebody has a cat.� As anyone should who is attempting to write or draw cats.�
  3. Respect Your Cat (Tails) Day

    It was on this day in 1384 that Richard II of England issued an edict forbidding the consumption of cats.
    In 1985 or there abouts, Cleveland Amory, in his delightful Cat Who Came for Christmas passed on an anecdote about an accomplished writer advising an inquisitive student: "Get yourself a quantity of paper and some sharp pencils..."
    When the inquisitive student blushed and wanted a bit more specifics, the famous writer said that if it was inspiration he was after, he should get himself a pair of cats. But, he added, if he really wanted to hone the understanding of human psychology necessary for his craft, he should be sure to acquire the "tailed variety of cat"

    It is now Respect Your Cat Day for the rest of the world, and Respect your Cats' Tails Day for writers.

    What that means for me, is that it's time to take the high road, postpone the rant about writers attempting not just...
