I can't believe it either! But our own Dorothy T. Rose has produced a Graphic Prologue to the Cat-Tales series, taken from CT1, Chapter 1, Part 1. You really have to see it.

Obviously, that previous post did not work and I did in fact jinx any hope of reopening the blog any time soon. So this time, no false hope, just a treat from a truly wondrous individual:

Good point, Joanna. Comic books have always done a fair amount of serving (or at least tickling) fetishy itches, and now that we're all agreed they are an adult's medium as much as a children's one, there isn't anything really wrong with that. As long as the proper titles are directed at the proper audience, it's fine.

I think they get into the most trouble when the hypocrisy kicks in: when they start pretending there ISN'T a bondage fetish, or that men DON'T like looking at big bouncy breasts, or that degrading a woman's icon actually empowers them. That's where their credibility goes down the toilet with all but the terminally gullible.

The fact is, comic books have not evolved past "Quiet or Papa spank" while the rest of the world HAS, and their attempts to appear enlightened about women come off like the 70s sitcoms making a production of the black guy who was a lawyer and not a janitor. It's your father...

Ra's al Ghul. Atlantis. Batman... What could possibly go wrong?

The most illustrious Demon's Head, light of the east, terror of the west, apex of the age of Oneness through One rule, is quite certain your unworthy selves will be thrilled beyond your feeble powers to express your joy at informed of his latest, and certainly his greatest, effort.

Oh for god sake, just give them the link.

    Hey gang,
Was a good holiday, don't get me wrong. It's a very hectic new year, however, and what free time I have is going into the new chapter and the TBA that ate Tokyo. So there hasn't been any spare bits of Chris for blogging, and frankly, that isn't likely to change in the near future. So enjoy the old entries until I'm blocked and need to procrastinate or something.
Ciaomeow, as we say in the real neighborhood.

  6. Biased, Stupid, Opportunists or Lazy? This one we can fix.

Dennis Leary is doing the talk shows right now promoting his new book: Why We Suck. One story that keeps coming up is the PC outcry over comments in a chapter about parents special needs kids, but not the real ones, the ones whose needs actually aren't that special. The kids who don't actually have anything wrong with them except that their parents haven't done their f-ing job as parents and are essentially shopping doctors to get the diagnosis which gets them off the hook.

The chapter begins talking about a real autistic child, and how anyone who knows a family with one of these kids knows the enormous time such a child requires, the exhausting emotional toll it takes, etc. It is impossible to read this passage and not see that it is written by someone aware of and sympathetic to the plight of those families. All you have to do in order to understand he's talking about the other parents shopping doctor is to read and process all the words on the...
  7. Buds

I had two interesting emails this morning, (mandatory plug for the new tale) interspersed in the Not My Kink reviews (/end plug). The one was a Wiccan meditation on the transition from autumn to winter as a time to see past the obvious. Cutting through the purple prose: on the surface, nature seems to be dying. But if you look closer, you'll see tree branches covered with buds. Even in this time when things are shutting down to rest, preparations are already under way for the new growths next year. I think there is enormous wisdom in these ancient practices of looking to nature to learn, to find new ways of looking at things and new ways of thinking about things. That principle is what has value. It came up with some spectacularly wrong ideas, simply because 5,000 years back people didn't know much. The stars foretold incredibly important things, like when the animals would leave, the plants would die, and when it would get incredibly f-ing COLD. It's understandable that...
  8. Light Cats

Swedish people honor the Sun goddess Lucina, also known as St. Lucy, today. Girls dress in white gowns and wear garlands crowned with candles. They wake up their families with songs and a special breakfast. For this celebration, the Swedes make lussekatter, scrumptious saffron buns shaped in symbolic S-curves, figure-eights, and cats.

The name of the bread itself means "light cats" and may refer to the magical cats who pulled the chariot of Freya, another northern goddess. Celebrate today by baking lussekatter yourself (you can find the recipe online or in ethnic cookbooks), and by honoring the girls in your family. Look for the Sun in the winter sky, and greet her as well. Burn a white candle on your altar for Lucina, who brings back the light.
I thought I would share this because the week began with one of those series of emails and clippings in the inbox,...
  9. Election Day

    11/04/08 08:03:33 | 0

So much of what we've seen in comic books is a microcosm of what's happened on the larger stage: We've seen persons in power trying to insist things into being that simply weren't true, and reality in the form of flood waters, WMDs, and stock prices stubbornly refusing to conform to the official word in the press releases. We've seen petty mean-spirited and transparent abuses of power to punish those who voice opposition. And we've seen that best part of ourselves, that vital capacity to hope, beaten and beaten and beaten until it just can't get up again. That BELIEF that whatever is wrong can be fixed… that we have a first amendment because the basic tenets of democracy say that if ALL the ideas are allowed a fair hearing, the majority will be able to recognize the right ones from the wrong ones. That's the core belief of our political system: the principle that we are all fundamentally rational, and can therefore RECOGNIZE the right thing to do, and...
  10. Cat-Tales 56: Armchair Detective

    10/29/08 11:21:30 | 0

Hey gang, I know this wasn't one of those mysteries where you get a floorplan of Watermill Lodge in the text, but if anyone does want to review the Lyon family tree, before proceeding to the solution, now would be the time, because...

Armchair Detective concludes with Chapter 6: Well?! as well as an epilogue you will not want to miss.

The post-game chat for Armchair Detective will Sunday, November 2nd in the Cat-Tales chatroom at 2 pm Eastern Standard Time. Now, that is the day we end daylight savings time. So... U.S. folks, set your clocks back in the morning, and then 2pm East = 1 pm Central = 12 noon Mountain = 11 am Pacific. Everyone else, perhaps this...
